Exciting flight test data, performance information and Vision program update coming Tuesday, December 2.
November 2008. Since first flight in early July, the Cirrus Vision program has made substantial progress. Here are a few of the latest photographs including a screen shot of our data acquisition system during a slow speed test flight and work from early aerodynamic analysis. Note that the Vision rendering in the upper left corner is a more accurate illustration of the projected production airplane. Its takes a close eye to spot the subtle changes from the test airplane and the static mock ups.
Plan to visit us again next Tuesday to learn more about the flight test results to date, performance targets, and several items where the Vision program is exceeding our initial expectations.
See you again on December 2!

July 2008. Cirrus Vision is the official name of Cirrus Design’s single-engine personal jet, formerly known as “the-jet”. Cirrus Vision has unsurpassed interior space, single-engine fuel efficiency, flexible seating for up to seven, state-of-the-art advanced avionics and flight systems, and all the safety hallmarks already associated with Cirrus including the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS™). Sporting a V-tail design, Cirrus Vision is technologically advanced yet engineered to be simple to fly – to allow owner-pilots more lifestyle pursuits than any other personal aircraft.
“The name ‘Cirrus Vision’ represents a natural extension of Cirrus’ vision to build the ultimate personal transportation machine,” said Cirrus CEO, Alan Klapmeier. “With Cirrus Vision we are providing an entirely new transportation option for personal and business travel. It is a smarter, simpler, and more efficient way to travel and holds the unique promise of redefining general aviation.”
First Flight of "The-Jet": 09:47:56 am CDT Thursday July 3rd, 2008. Duluth International Airport.
On July 3, 2008 at 9:47:56 AM CDT, Cirrus’ the-jet made its landmark first flight outside the company’s worldwide headquarters at the Duluth Airport in Duluth, Minnesota.
Advanced Development Group (ADG) Vice President Steve Serfling praised the organization for its efforts and the milestone achievement. "This 'first flight' is a historically significant moment for Cirrus and the opening of a new chapter for all of aviation. Our customer partners can be proud of the team of more than 125 dedicated engineers and technicians that have worked tirelessly to ensure that this milestone was met in a safe and efficient manner. With this successful flight today, we initiate the next program phase that will support the more rigorous certification program.”

June 2008. During the past few months the Advanced Development Group has achieved several significant milestones related to the goal of First Flight of the-jet. While these pictures do not adequately capture the total determination, focus and energy that is happening on this project right now, they do give you a sense of just how far we have come lately and how close we are to realizing First Flight.
Construction of the test aircraft you see here, called "V1", is complete. Earlier this week, the ADG build team and engineers ceremoniously handed the keys over to the ADG flight test crew. The flight test team will now complete a very methodical process to ensure V1 is ready to fly safely and within very specific flight parameters set for the initial flight. Even at this critical stage the team is approaching its work and the impending flight schedule with the same careful diligence and thoughtful planning as they have from the onset of the program.
Our next update will be shortly after the inaugural flight of the-jet.
April 2008. Cirrus jet position holders recently received a package containing (4) jet development photos and a letter from Steve Serfling and Mike Van Staagen, Cirrus Vice Presidents of the Advanced Development Group (ADG). This letter describes the jet development progress, including the growth of the ADG team and facilities, jet drawings, modeling, structural load testing, powerplant progress, landing gear, and wind tunnel testing along with a 5 minute video, shown below.
April 2008. See Alan Klapmeier, Cirrus CEO and Chairman, describe Cirrus' vision of a personal jet and how this vision is the driving force of key design features of the-jet by Cirrus.

November 2007. Watch Cirrus Design Co-founder and Chairman/CEO Alan Klapmeier introduce the most anticipated new personal aircraft in development, “the-jet.” In this video, recorded at the 2007 AOPA Expo in Hartford, Connecticut, Alan highlights the unique features of Cirrus’ first personal jet including its innovative seating, engine configuration, and the inspiration behind developing an owner-flown jet that is easy for pilots of small airplanes to fly.
